The London Canoe Club promotes and encourages paddlesport activities with participation for families, individuals and groups in London and district; with emphasis on safety, education and enjoyment of the environment.
The hard work and dedication of our Board of Directors and members is helping us to achieve our mission as stated above. I’m very pleased to play my part while serving another year as President of the Board.
We continue our partnership with the Lower Thames River Conservation Authority who is once again providing us with space at Sharon Creek Conservation Area where we can run our programs. This year we are offering the ORCKA safe canoeing program, kayak lessons (so popular we have a waiting list) along with recreational canoeing and kayaking. We ran several daytrips this spring and will keep you posted if we plan more later in the season. New ideas for this year include evening paddles, more social events, North Canoe paddling and a kayak fitness program. Let us know if you have any other ideas – we’d love to hear them.
Recreational paddling opened on June 11th! We need volunteers to man the boathouse, or boat-crates if you will, at Sharon Creek. We’ll train you on the process and procedures and you can even buddy up to make it more fun. Do you know a high school student who’s working on their volunteer hours? Bring them along and we’ll help them on their way. The more volunteers we have the more hours we can be open and the more paddling everyone can enjoy. And don’t tell anyone but volunteering while sitting in a beautiful conservation area next to the water is a pretty good deal.
