After
14 years of Dragon Boat representation throughout Ontario, The London
Canoe Club has joined together with the LCC Dragon Flyers to purchase
its very own dragon boat.
The Dragon Flyers want to thank the
LCC Board of Directors for its generous support. Its support
will help us achieve our ambition to make our waterways more
accessible to community groups of all ages.
We’ll be offering clinics in sterning and paddling, as well as “working excursions” for community organizations interested in recreational outings. Stay posted for news on our “official launching ”, a gala event, which will take place later in the summer (when there is water in the river!!) For information, contact the Canoe Club for the Dragon Flyer representative who will be happy to have you join our team, schedule your community team, or take you on a “cruise”.
Many thanks again to the Board
which, in its wisdom, has added an “ ancient charm” to
its current fleet of seaworthy crafts.
Paddlezup,
The LCC
Dragon Flyers

In early
2000, the Rowbust Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Racing Team was
born! We are in our seventh paddling season. We are a group of
44 strong and passionate women who have found a unique way to
increase awareness about Breast Cancer, while also sharing the
message that there is 'life' after a diagnosis of Breast Cancer.
Dragon boat paddling provides tangible benefits to Breast
Cancer Survivors, including emotional support, physical activity and
the opportunity for BCS teams to bring home athletic glory and
achievement to their community. Through the strenuous demands
of dragon boat paddling, we have learned that we can push the limits
of our physical endurance and have fun at the same time. It is an
event that truly celebrates "Wellness ".
In the winter
months we can be seen practicing at The Athletic Club and from spring
to fall we are on the water Tuesday and Thursday evening and Saturday
morning.
Rowbust Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon Boat Racing
Team has been extremely fortunate; we have been identified by the
Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Ministry of
Culture that receives annually $ 100 million of government funding
generated through Ontario’s charity casino initiative, as a
recipient of an OTF grant. The funds received from OTF have
allowed us to purchase a second dragon boat. The
purchase of this second boat addresses the OTF’s granting
priorities of promoting “healthier and more physically active
Ontarians.” All the ladies of Rowbust are very
excited about what this grant means to us and also to the community.
Being a part of Rowbust is such a positive and empowering experience,
we are thrilled that we will be able to accommodate so many more
Survivors and allow them to share in this wonderful paddle
sport.
Our
dream is to continue to encourage all those living anywhere with
Breast Cancer to live full and active lives.
